Åre Chocolate Factory

The Åre Chocolate Factory was founded in 1991 by Marina, Eva-Lena, and Marie. It all began as an experiment in their grandfather's old jam pot. They picked blueberries for the blueberry truffles, folded paper bags, and made all the chocolates by hand. This is how the trademark was born – the chocolate bag, which has now been filled with handmade chocolates for over thirty years.
Thanks to joy, perseverance, and a love of chocolate, the Åre Chocolate Factory has developed into what it is today. The three still run the business, and all chocolates are still made by hand – preferably using regional raw materials from the mountains. Today, around 30 people work there, producing around ten million chocolates annually and jointly running an established company that contributes to the development of the entire region. Then as now, the founders' hearts beat for small-scale, regional production.
Over the years, this passion for experimentation has led to new taste adventures, keeping the love of craftsmanship alive. This awakens the desire to continue handcrafting chocolates from the finest raw materials at the foot of Åreskutan.
People from all over the world come to Åre to relax and enjoy the mountain scenery—and good chocolate. Åre is of great importance for chocolate production, as the raw materials that grow wild in the marshes and mountains surrounding the village are often used in the chocolates.
Today, the chocolate factory is one of the village's year-round employers. It contributes to the region through job opportunities and increased interest in Åre. However, production is still small, and all manufacturing is done on demand.
Visitors are always welcome in Åre; villagers often stop by the chocolate factory and shop. There's also a café next door, and from the shop, you can marvel at the chocolate production through a large glass window.
