The Nordland Shop in Neuenkirchen

The Nordland shop in Neuenkirchen, a small town near Osnabrück, employs a total of seven people. Founded in 1981, it has been dedicated to Scandinavian products since 1985. A personal fondness for Northern Europe was the basis of this business idea.

At first, it was just a small program with a few illustrated books and travel guides, then map imports were added and finally - at the special request of many customers - more and more items from the souvenir and handicrafts sector.

The owner, Angelika Haardiek, writes in her online shop: "The Nordland Shop evolved from a mail-order bookstore that I founded with my husband in 1981. The first catalog with books and maps from and about Scandinavia was published in 1985. Since then, the range has been continuously expanded. Today, you'll find not only illustrated books and travel guides, novels and nonfiction books, language textbooks and maps, but also many other items related to Northern Europe, such as Norwegian sweaters, home textiles, stickers, T-shirts, design products, sauna accessories, handicrafts, many souvenir items, and especially jewelry and food. I also began offering books about the present and the history of exploration of the polar regions early on."
