"Gustav Ehrenreich created the joyful movement in the late 1960s, which has since earned a place in Danish design history. Today, there's a happy Hoptimist for every occasion. Therefore, you can always find a Hoptimist spreading joy, no matter where they end up. That is the whole point of the Hoptimist movement: to spread joy and put a smile on others' faces.
When we evolve the design today, we do so in the spirit of Ehrenreich. His basic idea was to draw the Hoptimists from a circle and an ellipse, and this idea underlies both the classics and the new generation of figures.

Before the Hoptimists saw the light of day, Danish woodturner Hans Gustav Ehrenreich worked in his workshop in Stilling. It was the late 1950s, and in the small workshop "Ehrenreichs Trækunst," the imagination knew no bounds. No two products were alike. Small silver fish formed inlays in the hand-turned bowls and dishes, and unique pieces of art made from wood from all over the world were sold in the workshop.

In the late 1960s, Ehrenreich created the first prototypes for Birdie, Bimble, and Bumble. Soon, Ehrenreich and his Hoptimists became so popular that the small workshop could no longer keep up with production. The rest of this story is now a piece of Danish design history.

In 2009, we reintroduced the Hoptimists, and today the figures are hopping around again both in Denmark and around the world.

When we develop the design today, we do so in the spirit of Ehrenreich. His basic idea was to draw the Hoptimists from a circle and an ellipse, and this idea underlies both the classics and the new generation of figures." Quote from F&H Group
