Sattajärvi - a unique place in Swedish Lapland

You cycle through miles of forests and barren wasteland in Norrbotten, past quiet villages and plenty of solitude. Suddenly, you emerge into the light, into a vibrant village where Kero has been based since 1929. Here, unique products such as pointed shoes, pointed boots, slippers, bags, and backpacks are naturally made from tanned reindeer hide.
Sattajärvi has 350 residents—half of whom are children. A village with a soul, a spirit of life, creation, and creativity—and with an unwavering faith in the future.

Kero - a truly authentic tradition

Rarely does one come closer to a genuine and completely authentic tradition. A life of craftsmanship spanning generations; from the founders Yrjö Kero and Karl Wälivaara in 1929 to the current owners, two families descended from the Kero family – Emma and Erik.
Like the stubborn dwarf birch on the mountain, it has fought its way through recessions and fads – strong and proud.

Sustainability was never a slogan, but a living tradition

The product range has grown, sometimes even adapted, but always through personal and close contact with customers. Dialogue with customers is part of the company's vision; just as sustainability has always been a focus.
These days, it's fashionable to talk about sustainability. For Kero, it's always been a given, and everyone gets it free with every product!

About the traces of nature

On their migrations between the pastures, the reindeer are constantly in close contact with the Northern Lights and the Midnight Sun. It is the harsh mountain winds, the lichens on the south-facing slopes, the Arctic cold, and the insect bites of the marshlands that give reindeer hide its unique character.

Leather for clothing and shoes

People have always used leather and hides for clothing and shoes. Through years of targeted refinement of the tanning technique, Kero creates a natural product that breathes and exudes a unique feel. The leather is not only soft and supple, it is also beautiful to look at and smells wonderful.
It's naturally tanned, meaning only plant-based materials are used in the tanning process. You won't find a thinner, more flexible leather with less stretch.
