Meatballs

Clemens Haardiek

A typical Swedish dish; perhaps even something like a national dish.

Ingredients for 4 servings:

500 g minced beef
1 finely chopped onion
1 egg
3 tbsp breadcrumbs
1 tbsp mustard
1 tbsp fresh, chopped parsley
salt and pepper
50 g butter
2 tbsp flour
500 ml beef broth
200 ml cream

Preparation:

In a large bowl, mix the ground beef, chopped onion, egg, breadcrumbs or breadcrumbs, mustard, parsley, salt and pepper until well blended.
Form the mixture into small balls with a diameter of about 5 cm.
Heat the butter in a pan and fry the meatballs over medium heat, turning occasionally, until golden brown.
Then remove the meatballs from the pan. Add the flour to the pan and fry briefly to make a roux.
Slowly pour the beef broth and cream into the pan and stir well until a smooth sauce forms.
Add the meatballs to the sauce and simmer over low heat for 10-15 minutes until they are cooked through and the sauce has thickened.
Serve with mashed potatoes and cranberries.
