Norway's Arctic North Part 2
By Rolf Stange
138 pages with 135 color photos. Paperback. 21 x 16 cm.
This book is an aerial photographic journey through the landscapes of Arctic Norway: the Lofoten Islands, Jan Mayen and Svalbard.
Flying and observing the Earth from a bird's eye view has been a human dream. Modern technology now makes it possible to enjoy the view of the world from above without actually taking off.
For years, Rolf Stange has taken advantage of the opportunity to capture the beauty of Arctic landscapes from above, even in hard-to-reach places. In this photo book, he presents the aerial photographs from his lecture "Norway's Arctic North," along with many other landscape photographs from a celestial perspective for the first time.
'Norway's Arctic North Part 2: Aerial Arctic' is an illustrated book whose focus is clearly on images from remote corners of the North.
There are no detailed texts with geographical information; nothing should distract from the visual photo journey. The images speak for themselves, showing the fantastically aesthetic and impressive structures of the Arctic landscapes from a bird's eye view, be it lava fields, volcanic craters and rugged coastlines on Jan Mayen or jagged glaciers and rocky or curved shores on Svalbard. The author and photographer particularly enjoyed photographing remote parts of Svalbard from the air and presenting them here; the focus is on these photos. These include Rossøya, Svalbard's northernmost islet, as well as the barren coasts on the north side of Nordaustland, Storøya, Kvitøya, Bråsvellbreen... See for yourself!
The series 'Norway's Arctic North' consists of the following volumes:
1) Spitsbergen - From the Northern Lights to the Midnight Sun
2) Aerial Arctic - Lofoten, Jan Mayen and Spitsbergen from the air
3) Bear Island and Jan Mayen
Author Rolf Stange has traveled extensively throughout the entire Spitsbergen (Svalbard) archipelago for more than 20 years, using every conceivable method. Here, he shares his most memorable experiences with you. Despite the partially personal narrative perspective, the text is consistently informative, making the book a good introduction to the nature, landscapes, seasons, and travel options of this Arctic archipelago – an ideal gift for anyone planning a trip there, having already taken one, dreaming of one, or simply interested in Spitsbergen and the Arctic in general.
