The Marius pattern is a registered Norwegian design from 1953, named after the Norwegian brothers and slalom skiers Stein and Marius Eriksen. Stein Eriksen won Olympic gold at the 1952 Winter Games in Oslo. Marius Eriksen modeled for the knitting pattern by the company Sandnes Garn in 1953.
