Norway by mail boat

By Michael Möbius and Annette Ster

300 pages fully illustrated in color with numerous color photographs and map sketches. Paperback. 12 x 19 cm.

"The landscape is so beautiful it hurts inside," Liv Ullmann enthuses about her homeland in the far north of Europe in "Transformations" – and you'll certainly agree with this declaration of love as you travel on one of the famous mail ships, passing through 34 ports along the Norwegian coast in a total of twelve days, from Bergen in Fjordland to Kirkenes on the Russian border and back again. It's approximately 2,500 nautical miles or 4,630 kilometers through a subpolar cruising area where every day, indeed every hour, is full of highlights: vast archipelagos, majestic fjords, rock-rimmed sounds, sparkling glacier crowns, but also lovely landscapes and historic sites...

Michael Möbius and Annette Ster reveal their personal favorite places to travelers. The author duo has compiled the highlights of the ports for each day of the trip, and those who follow their tour suggestions on land will get to know very special facets of nature and culture: from glaciers and peaks with postcard views to the traces of the German Hanseatic League in Bergen.

And this is how you experience Norway on board the mail ships with the DUMONT travel pocketbook:

  • Personal and genuine: We value honest experiences, closeness and presence
  • Clear division into individual regions with their towns and landscapes
  • Pleasant immersion and experience pages before each chapter
  • The tours: Simply set off, explore new paths, and actively immerse yourself in nature and culture.
  • Favorite places: good for surprising discoveries
  • The addresses: radically subjective selection, sometimes stylish, sometimes ecological, always individual and personal
  • The magazine: a diverse travel feature. It also tackles critical and controversial topics…
  • The maps: 8 city maps, 13 tour maps, overview map with the highlights,
  • Quick overview of each region plus a separate travel map
