Swedish handicrafts
Hand-painted, with felt clothing and Lucia crown. 17 cm
A beautiful decoration, especially for the winter, Advent, and Christmas seasons.
The Lucia figure is also part of a set of three for Lucia Day .
December 13th is a very special day in Sweden. It is the day of the Lucia Festival, the Day of the Queen of Lights. It is the commemoration of Saint Lucia, which was the shortest day of the year before the Gregorian calendar reform and on which the winter solstice was celebrated until 1752.
The celebration begins with the family in the morning. People eat the traditional saffron pastry "Lussekatter," drink "Glögg," and, of course, as is often the case in Sweden, sing a lot.
The main character of the Lucia Festival is, of course, Lucia , who wears a long white dress, a red ribbon around her waist, and a wreath of candles on her head. She leads a procession, followed by other girls called "tärnor," who hold candles, and the star boys (stjärngossar).
Warning: Not a toy. Not suitable for children under 3 years. Choking hazard.
