Birgit Lutz has been traveling to Spitsbergen for 16 years.
As an expedition leader, she introduces visitors to the island's history, extreme landscape and diverse wildlife and involves her guests in a research project she initiated.

Birgit Lutz , born in 1974, is an author, expedition leader, and speaker. Her love of ice originated on a trip to the North Pole for the Süddeutsche Zeitung , which she subsequently reached several times on skis. After crossing Greenland, she spent several months living with Inuit people for research purposes. She has been traveling in Spitsbergen since 2008, including for a project on plastic pollution in cooperation with the Alfred Wegener Institute for Polar and Marine Research.
