But when she befriends Birk, the son of the rival Borkas clan, Mattis disowns her: Ronja the Robber's Daughter is no longer his daughter.

Astrid Lindgren (1907–2002), born in Småland (southern Sweden), created unforgettable characters such as Pippi Longstocking, Emil of Lönneberga, and Ronja the Robber's Daughter. The children's book author was awarded the Peace Prize of the German Book Trade and the Alternative Nobel Prize, among others.
