Review:
"The Arctic is disappearing as a habitat, is in the process of disintegrating. 'Children growing up today will no longer find what I saw,' laments Sebastian Copeland. 'You can see it. You can hear it.' It's frightening how the ice is crashing against each other, the ice cap is becoming increasingly fragile, and animals can no longer find a foothold, let alone a place to raise their young safely.
He gives a sense of this in his book, aiming to demonstrate what the planet has to lose. It's frightening that people like Copeland and Goodall seem to come from a past when major powers weren't yet unashamedly reaching out to Greenland and crying, "Drill, baby drill!"
Both continue to fight tirelessly with their fellow campaigners, even as the ice becomes thinner. Because, as Copland says, 'The Arctic is Ground Zero of Climate Change.'"

Original text from the publisher:
With his unrivaled photography taken during multiple expeditions, Copeland transports us to the Arctic to share the heart of the polar cap as never before seen. The Arctic is one of the last true wildernesses on the planet, and its demise should ring the alarm for lower latitudes. Copeland's multifaceted background--not only a polar explorer, award-winning photographer, and established author and journalist but also a dedicated environmental advocate--offers us a unique vantage point from which to appreciate this lonely spot.
Although the vision presented in these pages may be poetic, the book's aims are pragmatic--to inspire and help foster a transformation toward a sustainable future. The Arctic takes us along on Copeland's intrepid journeys--tinkering with the gear, sharing the tug of the heavy sled, and teasing the spirit as it pulls toward the wide-open space of an otherworldly earth. It is a visually arresting ode to the human pursuit of exploration.
