About the special edition:
Iceland has always been a special travel destination, and it has grown significantly in popularity over the last 10 years. The eruption of the volcano with the unpronounceable name Eyjafjallajökull and the underdog Iceland's success at the 2018 FIFA World Cup have further drawn attention to this small country and island in northern Europe.
But in addition to the impressive natural scenery, which is still shaped by the active volcanism on the island, Icelandic cuisine, with its traditional simplicity and the diversity created by foreign influences, is a delight not only on holiday when visiting the diverse and almost always excellent restaurants.
Ursula Jäger has been traveling to Iceland with her husband for many years and during this time has compiled an outstanding collection of recipes and information on Icelandic cuisine.
She has hand-picked 80 of these recipes for this special edition.
Get to know traditional Icelandic cuisine, accompany us through the regions of Iceland, and learn which dishes originate from which region. Take a journey through time through a year and recreate what Iceland eats during major holidays like Christmas.
Be inspired by delicious ideas using Skyr, a dairy product that is becoming increasingly popular in Europe.
Restaurant tips and short stories about Iceland complete this unique special edition of MAGIC OF THE NORTH.
Since her first trip to Iceland in 2004, author Ursula Jäger has been in love with this wild country in the far north – and she's especially passionate about Icelandic cuisine. Since there were hardly any Icelandic recipes available in German at the time, she began collecting them herself. She now also speaks the local language so she can read and understand recipes.
Since 2014, she has been presenting Icelandic recipes on her blog “Iceland Fan Cookbook” to share her love of Icelandic cuisine and to introduce her readers to the culinary traditions of this country between fire and ice.
The author lives with her family near Frankfurt am Main and, since 2020, also in Iceland for several months a year.
